Thailand One

I hate winter. I’m really not built for the cold. I’ve also always wanted to explore the East after my 6 months in the West (South America) back in ’09. Upon looking at my calendar in early December I was excited disappointed to see I had no weddings booked for a 6 week period after New Year. It made logical sense to book some flights to Thailand to take photographs rather than sitting at home twiddling my frost bitten thumbs and feeling numb from my poor circulatory system. One camera (5D) and one focal length (50mm) to keep me on my toes and to keep things light. I had an absolutely fantastic time and met a lot of fun people on the way. Here are a few of my photographs. My terrible internet connection can’t handle too many photos so I will have another post with the rest coming soon. Don’t scroll down too fast!

I saw these courtesy of my niece, Victoria Leader, sending a link on her facebook page. They are fantastic. The shots of the Thai people are very simple but revealing. You have whetted my appetite for a trip. The dinner party on the beach as the tide was coming in made me laugh the most.

    Congrats on your good workReplyCancel

Croatia

Croatia is a beautiful place and it was lovely to escape from the horrendous June we have just had and fly into 35 degree heat. First week of the trip was spent traveling and the 2nd at Soundwave festival in a little town called Tisno. Typically in the last couple days we had cloud and the usual thunderstorm which seems to follow me around whenever I go abroad. Thankfully we flew home into British summer at last which makes a pleasant change. These are a few of my photographs taken with my usual travel set up: Canon 5D & 50mm lens. There isn’t a huge amount of thought process that goes into these photos. My 50mm lens is as close to the human eye as camera lenses go so I just walk around and if I see something with my eyes that I like, I flick my camera to the settings I think best and take a photograph. Maybe my compositions aren’t complying ‘the rule of thirds’ or not perfectly sharp in some cases, but that’s the way I like it. Does my girlfriend get annoyed with me taking photos of her the whole time? Probably. Although she did say a few days into the trip that I wasn’t taking enough photos of her and she wanted some facebook profile pictures to keep her going for another year. Win win.
